TSW: hunting circles

Last night we finally finished one of the early investigation missions in The Secret World. It’s the one you pick up in the demon-haunted motel in Savage Coast.

The circle is your friend...

The circle is your friend…

Mild spoilers follow as I discuss this mission in brief…

This is a multi-zone mission, the initial clues hint at several locations where the stages of the mission are to be found. It also involves some code-decyphering and later some deduction to fill in the gaps.

There might be a clue somewhere nearby... or there might not...

We got stuck for ages on an early step because we failed to spot a very obvious clue. The frustrating thing was just how the game gets you thinking in circles – it’s hard to know whether you’re in the right place or even right zone at times. Add onto that the genius use of online resources and you have a potential endless amount of red-herrings and dead-ends with which to waste a lot of time doing the wrong thing while the answer is right there next to where your character’s avatar is stood…

After the “facedesk” moment and having spotted the clue we made good progress, the decyphering part being the only barrier to completing this mission. The mission took several hours to complete but investigation missions give a lot of XP, ability and skill points – they’re usually long missions and I guess the devs factor in the likely time it will take you to follow dead-ends of investigation.

Definitely a good feeling when we completed the mission!
