The jumping puzzle of DOOM

Whilst looking for a way to reach one jumping puzzle near the border of the asura and silvari starter zones, we found a different one. This turned into a bit of an epic session of jumping, falling, dying in lava and general fooling-around.

This puzzle just kept giving. After we conquered each section, we thought “surely this must be the end”.  But there was another, and another, and another. Seriously, it’s a pretty huge puzzle, tucked away in a non-descript mountain range. Guild Wars 2 takes it’s hidden zones seriously.

The puzzle mainly consisted of jumping along paths of glowing energy platforms, which if you took too long would vanish on your dumping you down into the lava or solid rock below.

Needless to say after lots of cursing, lots of falling and several times where we almost gave up; it felt like a real triumph to have completed the puzzle without spoilers. To be honest wiki’s or video guides won’t help much here, unlike riddles or logic puzzles spoilers are meaningless here, you have to actually do the jumping yourself.

It’s a pain if your reactions aren’t so great (like mine) but also it makes the victory all the more worthwhile in the end. I’ll be happy to have a break of a few sessions before doing another one of these but I’m glad they’re in the game nonetheless.

    This doesn’t sound like my cup of coffee, haha – I already thought the JP in metrica province was horrible. 😉 I think what bugs me most about these is that some of the difficulties are caused by randomness or itchy control / collision detection. at least that’s how it felt like with the wind gusts there over the narrow tree branches. that said, victory is all the greater for it for sure.

      I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with them, they take me back to my old love for Sonic, but I definitely don’t have the same reactions anymore. GW2 is more forgiving than DDO though when it comes to jumping puzzles, GW2 seems to err more on the side of just clinging onto the ledge than just missing it.
