GW2: Take time for jumping and standing still

Playing the Sylvari starter area I found today a serious jumping challenge, it beats anything I can remember from DDO or the various platform games I have played.

It’s a surprisingly long challenge, each time I reached a new level I thought that’s it, but no I then realised there was more climbing to be done. Even after I reached the very end and solid ground again, chest opened and NPC lore snippet read there was more. I found yet more steps and the entrance to a new area I’d not explored.

The adventure continues

This seems to fit very well with the pattern of events, hearts and action in general flowing seamlessly from one area to the next. Maybe this zone is exemplar in how well this works, but so far in the Sylvari, Charr and Asura starter zones I’ve always found this to be the case. The seemless nature of the action could lead to that familiar feeling while playing MMOs of being rushed. But the designers very cleverly put in the exploration, the vistas as achievements, the beautiful viewpoints for screenshots like those below and the crazy climbing puzzles – all this gives me and I would hope other players reason to pause once in a while and just enjoy the game world for a moment.

Climbing has its own reward
