I like to plan characters as part of the build up to a game, or even while still playing games. Yes, I have a spreadsheet to track my crafting for all my LoTRO alts. Now that the betas are done for GW2 I feel like the release date is getting nearer.
I’ve begun discussing with friends what characters to make first. From Guild Wars 1 my main was a mesmer. I do love playing that class, I suspect I’m not that good as I’m no min-maxer, but I enjoyed every minute regardless.
So this has to be my first character. I want to play a charr and norn character at some point, but my partner will want to play asura first so that’ll probably be the first race decided.
I also really like the looks of the guardian, I’m a bit paladin-obsessed in gaming. For this character I think I’ll chose norn, I like the idea of a paladin that can morph into a bear when things get really desperate!
I actually didn’t play much of other classes in GW. I have a level 11 ranger but he’s barely into the Shiverpeaks part of Prophecies. I also have a lower level necromancer and a warrior. This means I’ll probably have to do some experimentation in GW2 to see what else to play beyond the obvious. I do like caster DPS so I suspect necro is a no-brainer for me (I enjoyed the DoT playstyle of the Warlock in WoW). With only 5 character slots I’ll probably do a bit of alt-rolling and alt deleting as I experiment which I’ve very rarely needed to do before in games. I wonder if this low character limit will turn into a real money-spinner for ANet?
Order of preference then:
- Asura mesmer
- Charr necromancer
- Norn guardian
- Sylvari ranger?
I’m sure I’ll buy this one eventually, with the MoP release I may hold off, then again I have such a bad track record, heh. I’m bad about not getting hyped until I start reading about games from others after release and then wanting to jump in on the fun, lol. I’ve always enjoyed the classes in GW so I think these classes sound really fun.
I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with Guild Wars 1. I love the classes and the world, and the storytelling in the missions. But it is *so* grindy, too much instancing and the lack of jump makes me crazy!
Mesmer is one of the best things in the game for me, it’s such an interesting character class with a very different set of tactics. Looking forward to my asura mesmer wielding a larger-than-life two handed sword – watch the fifth ability video here, the unnamed ability he uses looks too awesome for words
