Positivity

When reading about and blogging about MMO gaming, it’s easy to be influenced by the amount of negativity on forums, blogs and news sites. It seems to me that forums are for the most part a place for disgruntled veteran players to while away time moaning about how bad a game is / has become. Given the trends in the MMO industry over the years of derivative ‘WoW-clone’ as the model for development there’s plenty of negativity or cynicism among MMO pundits as well.

I try and keep this blog positive and upbeat since I like to write about what I enjoy in gaming and what I find interesting. I found it truely heartwarming to read of the community reaction in Everquest 2 to this call for action from the mother of a very ill boy. This one story cuts through all the moaning, in-game trash talking, kill-stealing and silent single-player gaming. It shows that in one game at least there is a community that will go the extra mile to help someone in a small way, reaching out through this virtual world.

Thanks to Bhagpuss for the link, and also for alerting me to several EQ2 news sites that I didn’t know about!
